A Shot of Sin (Vault of Sins #1) by Eden Summers is the first book in her brand new series Vault of Sins. This series is based upon three close friends who have opened up a “vault” of pure wicked delights and erotic pleasure. Although each of these books will focus on a different couple, I am going to go out on the limb here and say, at least for me, I want to read each of these stories in order. It appears to me at this stage that with each new story, we may get a continuation of each of the previous couples, at least I hope. That’s my opinion as of right now and personally, I love to catch up with couples that I meet early on in a series and see how their relationship progresses!

This particular story focuses on Leo and Shay. I have to be honest I was on the fence with both of these characters, almost like a love/hate feeling. I wanted more character build-up for each of them. Shay for instance, was feisty and smart-mouthed but for me I found it a bit of a turn-off at times. This sounds crazy, but for me, I love a feisty, strong, independent heroine but when she is teetering on being crass, that’s a big no for me. Again, this also is going to sound crazy, but I was also a bit turned off with the way she acted as an “employee” lol, I know that sounds crazy but her attitude and the way she spoke to her bosses, yikes again, that was a big no for me. For me, her character came off a bit too over the top on the “smart-mouthed” category and I wished that she hadn’t behaved the way she did at times, it turned me off. I also felt like I really didn’t “know” either of the characters. I wished that I had more of a back story on both of them.

Now for Leo, I liked him but I didn’t love him. Except for his problem with women who didn’t stay around once he introduced them to what he “enjoyed” sexually, I felt I really didn’t know much about him either. Don’t get me wrong, I love great sex scenes, I love great sexual chemistry, heck I even love some great sexual frustration and buildup and for me this story had that but yet it left me wanting for a little bit more. I realize I may be all over the place with my thoughts and feelings but I can’t help but feel conflicted with this story. It was too rushed, too fast for me but then again at times, I love to get straight to the point and this one did but I still would have liked more of the relationship build outside of the club.

I am hoping in the future for a little more on the characters and their back stories and I would like to see a relationship build on every level not just on a sexual level. I want to feel like I “know” them so that I can relate to their story, I want a better “visual” of my characters. There is nothing better for me while I am reading when I can “see” each character in my head and I couldn’t quite “see” them while reading this story if that makes sense. I had a tough time connecting with them through most of the book but by the end, I connected with them just not completely and I hope to see more of them in the future stories.

I can say that I do look forward to the next couple of stories in this series. I have enjoyed Eden Summers past books and will continue to read her books in the future!
