The Road Leads BackThe Road Leads Back by Marci Boudreaux

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Road Leads Back by Marci Boudreaux is the first book I’ve read from this author and most certainly won’t be the last. I absolutely LOVED. THIS. BOOK! The books starts and jumps straight into the plot and it hooks you fast. It was nothing that I expected it to be. I loved it because it was unique storyline and very believable to the characters emotions and reactions to the problems they face.

Kara was kicked out of her house when she was 17 because she was pregnant. She was sent to the opposite side of the country to a home for pregnant teens. From there she raised her son, Phil, as best as she could. Kara is more of the free spirit and used the bartering technique to help support her and her son. Now Phil is an adult and has a child of his own. The story starts right when Kara runs into Phil’s father, Harry, who had no idea he has a son let alone a granddaughter. The family dynamic has changed and they’re all trying to deal as best as they can so Harry brings them back to Iowa and they face a lot of heartache and deception from their families as well as trying to build their own family unit.

The raw emotion in this book was phenomenal. The author shed light on some very complex family issues and I think she did a great job of doing it. There were so many twists that it kept me engaged throughout the whole book. Kara has almost 30 years of pent up anger and you watch her deal and struggle with forgiving those people who lied to her. Harry has to deal with the fact that he’s been a father for 30 years and had no idea. Watching these two work through their issues brought out so many emotions in me. This book stayed with me long after I finished.
